Liberty, Fort Knox, AMSEC, and Rhino, in plain terms.
Most buyers assume a lifetime warranty covers everything. The reality is more specific, and more useful to know before you file a claim. Fire, break-in, flood, the lock, and the contents inside all get different answers depending on the brand.
Here is how each brand handles it, and where Norcal fits in.
Every brand Norcal carries covers the two things buyers worry about most: fire damage and break-in damage. The details diverge from there.
Liberty and Fort Knox cover the safe body for the life of the original owner. Rhino covers residential safes for life. AMSEC depends on the model, with terms that run from one year to lifetime. None of the four cover the contents inside your safe, and only Fort Knox covers flood or accident damage.
The two scenarios buyers worry about most are covered across Liberty, Fort Knox, AMSEC, and Rhino.
Fort Knox repairs or replaces safes damaged by accident, flood, or fire. The other three do not cover flood.
Liberty’s coverage follows the safe to a new owner. Fort Knox, AMSEC, and Rhino stay with the original purchaser.

AMSEC’s warranty is tiered by product line, so “tiered” reflects that some models carry one year, some five years, and qualifying categories carry lifetime. The full breakdown is in the AMSEC section below. Freight rows summarize each manufacturer’s own warranty document.
Liberty’s warranty runs in layers. The body is covered for life. The lock carries a shorter term you can extend.
Liberty covers the safe body for the lifetime of the original owner, and the coverage transfers if you sell the safe or hand it down. If a fire or attempted break-in damages the safe, Liberty repairs or replaces it.
Liberty also pays to ship the replacement, install it, and remove your old safe. If the damage locks the safe shut, Liberty pays a professional to open it. On logistics, Liberty asks the least of you of any brand here.
The lock carries a 5-year warranty. You can extend it if your safe was bought within the last 12 months and built within the last 24 months.
The extended coverage also pays for a certified locksmith to get you back in if the lock fails. The safe has to be registered to qualify.
If you bought from Norcal, contact us first. We can pull your purchase records and start the claim with Liberty for you.

Fort Knox takes a different approach, one that covers more damage types but asks more of you on freight.
Fort Knox is the American-made brand in the lineup, and its warranty centers on the original owner. The safe body and the lock both carry lifetime coverage, which is a step beyond the 5-year lock terms most brands offer.
The safe and vault door are warranted against defects for the lifetime of the original purchaser, and the lock is covered on the same lifetime terms. If someone forces entry or attempts a break-in, Fort Knox replaces the safe at no charge for the product itself.
This is where Fort Knox stands apart. It repairs or replaces safes damaged by accident, flood, or fire, at its option. None of the other three brands cover flood, which is worth weighing if your property sits in a flood-exposed part of the valley or foothills.
Fort Knox’s coverage is on the product, not the logistics. You pay freight to return a damaged safe to the Orem, Utah factory, and freight to receive the replacement. Liberty, by contrast, pays shipping both ways and installs the replacement.
Neither approach is wrong. It is a real difference worth knowing before you choose, and the kind of thing we walk through with you in the showroom.
Pistol boxes are the exception. They carry lifetime coverage on the box, but the lock follows the lock maker’s 1-year warranty rather than the lifetime term.

AMSEC works differently again: the coverage you get depends entirely on which model you bought.
AMSEC’s warranty is tiered by product. The category your safe falls into decides how long it is covered, and every claim needs AMSEC’s authorization before any work begins.
Standard coverage, 1 year. Most AMSEC safes and their factory-installed electronic locks carry 1 year of parts and labor. Field service work carries 90 days of labor.
AMSEC requires authorization first. The service line is 951-685-9680, and you will need the product description, serial number, a description of the problem, and proof of purchase. If you bought from Norcal, let us handle the authorization call so your coverage stays intact.
Do not attempt repairs or contact an outside locksmith before calling us. Unauthorized service voids the AMSEC warranty. Contact us first.
Rhino keeps it simpler: lifetime residential coverage, with a few conditions on where the safe lives.
Rhino covers residential safes with a limited lifetime warranty for the original owner. Commercial or industrial use drops that to one year against defects.
For the life of the original owner in a residential setting, Rhino covers defects in workmanship and materials, plus damage from attempted or actual break-in and fire. The lock and electronic keypad carry 5 years. Lights, electrical parts, paint, and the interior carry 1 year.
Rhino asks for proof of purchase, a written statement, photos of the damaged safe, and a police or fire report. Rhino then decides whether to repair the safe in your home, at the factory, or replace it.
If it goes back to the factory, Rhino pays the return freight and opens the safe if needed. You package and palletize it and make it available for curbside pickup at your expense.
The safe has to live in a climate-controlled space, not a pool room or a damp area, or the warranty can void. Unauthorized parts and any tampering that affects how the safe operates also void it.
Bought your Rhino from Norcal? Start the claim with us and we will help you assemble what Rhino needs.
Whichever brand you own, the claim goes smoother when someone who knows the process files it with you.
Norcal has processed warranty claims with these manufacturers for years. Kevin has watched how these safes actually perform through real fire and break-in claims, which is how we know what each manufacturer wants and how to present a claim so it moves instead of stalling.
Start with us. We identify the tier that applies, pull your records, and open the claim with the manufacturer for you. Most customers never sit in a manufacturer phone queue.
For safes we did not sell, we can often still help on the service side, whether that is a lockout, a combination change, or a mechanical issue, even when the warranty claim itself runs through whoever sold it.
A warranty is only as smooth as the person who files it. Norcal knows the process and the people. We are a phone call, not a hold queue.
No. None of the four brands Norcal carries, Liberty, Fort Knox, AMSEC, or Rhino, cover the contents of the safe. Your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance is the right tool for what is inside, and some policies add scheduled coverage for firearms, jewelry, or documents. Your insurance agent can tell you what your policy covers.
Only Fort Knox. It repairs or replaces safes damaged by accident, flood, or fire at its option. Liberty, AMSEC, and Rhino do not cover flood under their standard warranties. A fire-rated safe is built to resist heat, not water, so flood protection comes down to placement and insurance.
It depends on the brand. Liberty’s lifetime warranty transfers to a new owner. Fort Knox, AMSEC, and Rhino all limit coverage to the original purchaser, so their warranties do not transfer. If you are buying or selling a used safe, check the status before the deal.
It varies by brand. Fort Knox covers the lock on its safes for life. Liberty and Rhino cover the lock for 5 years, and Liberty lets you extend that to 15 years for $99 or lifetime for $159 if the safe qualifies. AMSEC covers factory-installed locks for 1 year, or 5 years on qualifying gun safes.
Every brand wants proof of purchase and a police or fire department report. Rhino also asks for photos of the damage and a written statement. Have your serial number ready. If you bought from Norcal, call us first and we will walk you through exactly what your brand needs.
No. AMSEC’s lifetime coverage applies to specific categories: UL-listed fire safes, Super Brute floor safes, and gun safes 55 inches or taller. Shorter gun safes fall under 5-year coverage if they have a factory AMSEC lock, or the 1-year standard warranty. Call us if you are not sure which tier your model falls under.
With AMSEC, yes. Using a residential AMSEC model in a commercial setting voids the warranty. If you are putting a safe in a shop or office, tell us up front so we point you to a model rated for that use.
Every coverage claim on this page comes from the manufacturer’s own current warranty document. These are the official sources.
Have your serial number and proof of purchase handy if you can. If you cannot find them and you bought from us, we can usually pull the records on our end.
